New Patients

What to Bring to Your First Visit

  • Photo ID — a valid government-issued photo identification such as a driver's license or passport.
  • Insurance card — bring your dental and/or medical insurance card if applicable. We will verify your coverage and explain your benefits at your appointment.
  • List of current medications — include the name, dosage, and frequency of all prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and supplements you take regularly.
  • Completed new patient forms — to save time at your appointment, please complete your new patient forms in advance. You can access them on our Patient Forms page.
  • Recent X-rays or dental records — if you have had recent dental X-rays or a cone beam CT scan taken elsewhere, please bring them or request that they be forwarded to our office prior to your visit. This can reduce duplication and help us evaluate your case more efficiently.
  • A list of questions — we encourage you to write down any questions or concerns you have about your oral health or proposed treatment so we can address them thoroughly during your appointment.

Insurance & Financing

Payment & Coverage Options

NorthStar Implant Dentistry accepts most major dental insurance plans and will work with your carrier to maximize your benefits. Our team will review your coverage prior to treatment and provide a clear explanation of your out-of-pocket responsibilities before any procedure begins. We believe financial considerations should never stand in the way of the care you need — and we are committed to transparency and communication every step of the way.

For patients without insurance or for procedures not covered by insurance, we offer flexible financing options through third-party providers including CareCredit and Lending Club Patient Solutions. These programs allow you to spread the cost of treatment over manageable monthly payments, often with low or no interest options for qualified applicants. Ask our team for details during your consultation.

Before Your Procedure

Pre-Operative Instructions

Proper preparation before your procedure helps ensure your safety and a smooth surgical experience. If you are receiving IV sedation or general anesthesia, you must not eat or drink anything — including water — for at least eight hours before your scheduled appointment time. A responsible adult must accompany you to and from the office and remain available to assist you for the remainder of the day.

If you take daily medications, ask our office whether you should continue taking them on the morning of surgery — some medications should be taken as usual with a small sip of water, while others may need to be temporarily adjusted. Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing with short or rolled-up sleeves to allow easy access to your arm for IV placement if needed. Remove contact lenses and avoid wearing nail polish on the day of surgery as these can interfere with monitoring equipment.

After Your Procedure

Post-Operative Care

Following surgery, rest is essential for the first 24 hours. Avoid strenuous physical activity, bending, and lifting for at least two to three days. Keep your head elevated — even while sleeping — to minimize swelling. Apply ice packs to the outside of your face in 20-minute intervals during the first 24 to 48 hours to reduce swelling and discomfort. Do not use ice after 48 hours; gentle heat may be applied thereafter if needed.

Eat soft foods and stay well hydrated. Avoid hard, crunchy, or spicy foods until instructed otherwise. Do not use a straw, smoke, or rinse vigorously for at least 48 hours following extraction procedures, as this can dislodge the protective blood clot from the surgical site. Take all prescribed medications exactly as directed. If you experience excessive bleeding, severe swelling, fever, or unusual pain not controlled by medication, contact our office immediately.
