Overview

About This Procedure

Successful implant dentistry is a team effort. At NorthStar Implant Dentistry, we specialize in the surgical component of implant care — including extraction, bone grafting, and implant placement — while working closely with your restorative dentist, who is responsible for designing and delivering the final crown, bridge, or full-arch prosthesis that attaches to the implant.

This collaborative model ensures that every aspect of your treatment is thoughtfully planned and executed. Before surgery even begins, we communicate directly with your restorative dentist to align on implant positioning, angulation, and timing so that the final restoration fits perfectly and functions beautifully. If you do not have a restorative dentist, we are happy to provide referrals to trusted providers in our network.

The Process

What to Expect

The implant process is divided into two phases. The surgical phase is performed at NorthStar and includes any necessary extractions, bone grafting, and the placement of the implant itself. After a healing period — typically three to six months — during which the implant fuses with the bone, you return to your restorative dentist for the second phase: the placement of the abutment and final prosthetic crown or bridge.

Throughout this process, NorthStar maintains open communication with your restorative dentist, sharing imaging, surgical reports, and healing updates. We also provide detailed records and impressions to ensure precise fabrication of your final restoration. This seamless hand-off between surgical and restorative care is central to the NorthStar approach.

Outcomes

Results & Long-Term Care

When the surgical and restorative phases are carefully coordinated, the result is an implant restoration that looks, feels, and functions like a natural tooth. Proper planning prevents complications such as implants placed at incorrect angles, crowns that do not fit well, or bite issues that can strain the implant over time. Long-term success depends on maintaining excellent oral hygiene and attending regular check-ups with both your surgeon and restorative dentist.
